Summary of Practice

Mr. Masterson is a senior associate at Gatzke Dillon & Ballance LLP. His practice focuses on complex state and federal litigation matters and land use, environmental, hazardous substances and construction matters.

Mr. Masterson represents a variety of clients, primarily real estate development firms, property owners, and public agencies in diverse land use and environmental planning and litigation matters. His experience includes general business litigation, breach of contract, business tort claims, professional negligence, real estate, construction, hazardous substances, mechanic’s liens, and development financing actions. Mr. Masterson also has significant experience assisting in the preparation of CEQA-compliant documents and related land use planning documents. His practice also includes transactional matters, including drafting and negotiating diverse contracts and development agreements. Mr. Masterson works on all aspects of his varied caseload, from complex discovery and motion practice to trial preparation, trial, and post-trial matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Masterson graduated cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2005. During law school, Mr. Masterson served as a Lead Articles Editor of the San Diego Law Review, and received the Academic Achievement Scholarship. While in law school, Mr. Masterson clerked for the California Court of Appeal, Second District, Division 6, and the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office.

Mr. Masterson received his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Spanish from Vanderbilt University, where he graduated cum laude in 2002. At Vanderbilt, Mr. Masterson was a four-year member of the Varsity Cross Country and Club Track & Field teams. Mr. Masterson also studied at Universidad Complutense Madrid and is proficient in Spanish.
